Embarking on a journey across continents with our Defender has presented us with various challenges, one of which was finding suitable container buddies. This process, crucial for minimizing shipping costs, involved reaching out to fellow travelers and exploring different platforms. Join us as we share our experiences and insights into connecting with like-minded adventurers to share a container for our vehicle, a pivotal step in our overland expedition preparation.

FINDING OUR PERFECT MATCH FOR CONTAINER SHARING

In our last post, we talked about our search for container buddies to help split the high shipping costs for our vehicles. With shipping expenses on the rise, it was crucial to find someone to share a container with to keep within our budget.

We reached out through various platforms and got multiple responses. Among them, we connected with Moritz and Céline, who seemed like the perfect partners for our container-sharing journey.

A FORTUNATE MEETING IN DUSSELDORF

Despite many inquiries, timing and destinations often didn’t match up with most of the people who contacted us.

However, Moritz's contact was different. Our discussions went smoothly, and after comparing shipping options, Moritz and Célin quickly agreed to join us. To our surprise, we found out they also live in Düsseldorf. This led to a spontaneous meet-up at Pommes & Wein, where we shared stories and tips about our travels.

While Fred and I are always ready for our next adventure, Moritz and Céline had spent years restoring their Land Cruiser and planning their trip.

EMBARKING ON THE NEXT LEG TOGETHER

It’s amazing how the overlanding community can connect people, even those from the same city. Now, we’re just waiting for the final confirmation of our container's departure date. Once everything is set, we’ll plan our trip to Hamburg together, where our cars will be loaded into the container for the next chapter of our adventure. Stay tuned for more updates, and follow our blog for tips and stories from the road!
